Originally released in 2006, Layering Buddha is a landmark ambient work by Robert Henke — built entirely from recordings of the FM3 Buddha Machine, a small loop-based sound device with meditative tones.

Henke captured the machine in high fidelity, then layered and transformed its simple loops into slowly evolving sound fields. The result is minimal yet infinite – drifting textures that shift, hover and decay with hypnotic subtlety. Often regarded as a classic of drone and contemporary ambient music, Layering Buddha explores patience, repetition and the beauty of limited materials.

The new Astral Industries anniversary edition celebrates 20 years of the project with a remastered 2LP gatefold on 180g vinyl, featuring artwork by Theo Ellsworth.
