The Cassette is back – get your Walkman off the basement ✇✇

The word is already out and yes, we believe the hype: the Cassette tape is back on track.

In the 1990s, CDs finally replaced cassettes on the market. Now the tide could be turning again.

Hands up anyone who has never made and given away a mixtape. But the cassette is on the rise and, as in its early days, it is once again becoming increasingly important, especially among independent musicians, labels, and subcultures.

And the facts speak for themselves: cassettes are less expensive than Vinyl records and can be produced in small quantities. They can be listened to conveniently on the go —even Walkmans are available again at affordable prices. And, they are also significantly cheaper to ship and less harmful to the climate than Vinyl records.

There are definitely more limitations in terms of design and configuration than with its big brother, Vinyl. Compact cassettes also can’t compete with Vinyl records or CDs in terms of sound quality. But hey, who listened to MP3 files on simple cell phone headphones for decades?

It’s clear that cassettes will not replace Vinyl records. But we can still turn a cassette into a small gem and collector’s item, as well as a cool, inexpensive promotional and marketing tool.
