New in Umor Rex: excited to announce the self-titled debut album of Bella Wakame

Drawing inspiration from Bitchin Bajas, Jeremiah Chiu, and Groupshow (Jelinek, Leichtmann, Pekler), the debut album of Bella Wakame explores the intricate battle between form and freedom across ten tracks, featuring guest Indra Dunis (Peaking Lights).

With Bella Wakame, the reins are loose. Constantly pushing each other, they tap into a whole new energy—wild and unpredictable. Driven by the impulsive interplay of drums/sensory percussion (Andi Haberl) and modular synths (Florian Zimmer), their frenzied, free-form sound ventures into uncharted sonic territory, distinct from their other projects (The Notwist, SUN, Saroos, Driftmachine).

Bella Wakame isn’t about overthinking—it’s about the ecstatic push-and-pull of sound. Their music bursts with explosive textures and restless energy, shifting between motorik club, electro-acoustic jazz, ambient drift, and high-velocity anthems. A rapid-fire exchange of ideas, their wild, instinctive dashes unfold, refold, and expand, always chasing new sonic terrain—thrilling and unpredictable.

All songs written & produced by Andi Haberl & Florian Zimmer in Berlin. Mixed by Tadklimp. Mastered by Rafael Anton Irisarri at Black Knoll Studio in New York. Artwork by Daniel Castrejón in Mexico City.
